@Mt.Kaimondake is on the southernmost tip of the Satsuma peninsula and known as a sacred mountain from ancient times. There is a shrine named the Hirakiki shrine on the top of Mt.Kaimondake, thier shintai is the mountain. And fishermen believe as a god of sailing. Mt.Kaimondake has a second name "Mt. SatsumaFuji". It is said that it is most similar with Mt.Fuji among the mountains called Mt.**Fuji. There is a sad story that when the special attack corps who left Japan flied around Mt.Kaimondake as a substitute of Mt.Fuji said good-by. It is a view on the 226 road driving from Makurazaki.
